Friday Night Fic Spotlight: Emmmy

This is a super awesome edition of the Friday Night Fic Spotlight! First, because it's actually being posted on time, and secondly, this is a story from the Supernatural fandom. And, well, it's a really great story! So, without further adieu, here we go!

Story title: You Make the Sound of Pulling Heaven Down
Author: Emmmy (and_mister_comatose_over_there)
Summary: All human lives are connected, interwoven by a line of fate thinner than a spider's silk thread. Every single one was created with a purpose, and each human life holds great importance, even if the purpose of that life is to push another's life into their own predetermined role. Of course, because they are such complex and emotional creatures, humans rarely ever keep to their destined courses. That's where the angels come in.

This story is so beautifully written, it actually paints the picture for you. As an author, this is very important to the success of a story. The author does a fabulous job and you really have to read it to see what I'm talking about.

The plot is so complex, and yet so simple. The theme is belonging. Belonging in the sense that you find that person, activity, or place that makes you feel complete, like you're actually making a difference and doing what you were always made to do. I love the fact that it is rooted so deeply in the angels. The author gives a list of each faction of angels as well as a description of their jobs.

We first meet Castiel as a soldier, but he's been chosen to be the Guardian of a very important human: Dean Winchester. Upon receiving his new orders, he sets out to do his job. This becomes frustrating when Castiel's cloaking does not work on Dean and he is forced to reveal who he is. Now, another fabulous thing about this story is that Dean does not just accept this explanation. Too many times I have seen writers skip over this part. I mean, let's all be honest, if someone popped into our lives claiming to be an angel, we wouldn't just say, "Oh. Ok." Am I right? The fact that Dean insists this has to be a joke his brother is playing on him, makes it a little bit more realistic.

Then comes the fluff. The fluff is probably one of my favorite things about this story. There are parts where Dean is teaching Castiel to be human and do human things. As expected, Castiel's dry sense of humor and lack of understanding, makes for quite a few adorable parts:

"A capful of soap per load. No more than that, or we'll have a bubble invasion on our hands."

Castiel frowned at that. "One would think there would be more of a mess in the floor than on your hands."

And, I kid you not, there is a scene in the story that Castiel actually folds laundry in the shape of animals. ANIMALS! The adorableness in that alone is enough to make ANYONE want to read this story.

As great as all of the fluff is, there has to be some balance. Again, I love how the author subtly drops hints and changes the tide. Poor Cas (or Cassy as Balthazar likes to call him) begins to struggle with emotions he should not be having. These emotions are directed at - you guessed it - Dean. In Heaven, relationships between angels and humans are prohibited. Enter some angst. Castiel has to form, what he calls a sort of Pandora's box to tuck all of his feelings away into. I hate this part of the story because I am a Destiel 'shipper all the freaking way and I would love nothing more than to see them fall in love and be in love forever. (Like, seriously, why isn't this a thing on Supernatural?) The thing is, that would be boring. There has to be something that stands in their way. Then, it will be that much sweeter when they end up together. (Because they WILL end up together...Right, Emmmy? Right?!)

Favorite characters: I am absolutely in LOVE with Balthazar in this story! I loved him on the show, but the author writes him so unbelievably perfect. He's Castiel's closest friend, and quite entertaining with his perverted nature:

“You see, when one is making love to another man, the most important thing to remember is that you can never have too much lubrication. Listen to me when I say this, Cassy. If you think you have enough, add more, because you’re trying to squeeze a tyrannosaur into corn husk without breaking it. It’s the cardinal rule of anal sex in general, really, whether you’re with a man or a…”

I laughed so hard at that, people were staring. It was kind of embarrassing.

Then, there's Bobby. God, I love that man. He's also written ridiculously well. I could actually hear him saying one of the lines the author wrote for him:

“I can see the way he looks at you. I can see the way you orbit around him like he’s the damn sun. I was born at night, but it wasn’t last night.”

Get 'em, Bobby!

I could seriously write a novel about how much I love this story, but that would be a little bit over zealous...So, instead, I'll stop it here with a recommendation to all of you Supernatural lovers out there: READ THIS STORY! Even if you're not really into the whole Destiel thing, this story has so many layers that I believe it could interest and entrance any Supernatural fanfiction reader. Give it a shot. You will not be sorry.

This story is a work in progress, posting every other Tuesday.

Thanks everyone and until next time...
